SHIFT – Serving Immigrant Families in Transition
Groups and workshops for families, about the impact of immigration on family life and relationships. |

Topics we cover include: |

• Parent-child communication
• Changing roles of mothers and fathers
• Children staying in touch with their culture
• Making sense of Canadian family customs
• How immigration affects men, women and children
• “Immigration Stress”
• Challenges to marriage and couple relationships

SHIFT Workshops are held from mid-September to mid-June. Workshops are offered in several languages
and come with a Workbook. See the Schedule for more information. |

SHIFT Groups are held on weekday evenings or Saturday mornings, and are 3 to 5 sessions long.
Participants are encouraged to bring their partners and children 6 years and up. |
|
All immigrants, including refugee claimants and Canadian citizens, who are residents of
York Region or Toronto are eligible. |
|
Newcomer Women's Support Groups |
|
This is an eight session group just for women who are new to Canada (up to five years). This program is provided in Spanish, Korean, Russian, Gujarati and Punjabi, as staffing permits. Topics are chosen to reflect the special interests and concerns of newcomer women. Groups meet in our offices and in the community. |
