Counselling Services

Counselling Ad

CCSYR provides brief, goal focused counselling for York Region residents. Our team includes registered professionals in marriage and family therapy, psychotherapy, social work and psychology. Our purpose is to help you to make a positive difference in your everyday life, over a few weeks or months. In the first couple of sessions you and your counselor develop your goals for counselling, and what will be different in your life, or in your family, as a result. We will work out with you who should come to counselling. Sometimes not everyone connected with an issue wants to come, but we will work with whoever is available, whenever satisfactory outcomes can be expected.


To get started, call “Intake” at 905-770-7040, extension 241 (toll free 1-800-263-2075). You will have a telephone interview, about 10 minutes long. Your request will be reviewed within a few days. The average wait time for counselling to start is two to four weeks. Specific time, day, language or other preferences may take longer.


Counselling FAQ’s


Fees are assessed for each client, based on household income. The maximum fee is $100. No one is turned away for lack of ability to pay. Proof of income may be required.


Locations: Richmond Hill, Newmarket, Maple, and Georgina. (Walk-In is in Richmond Hill only.)


Languages: English, Farsi, Cantonese and Mandarin. (Walk-In is limited to language of the counsellors available.)


Insurance: Sometimes fees can be reimbursed by your extended health benefits. Find out which registered professionals are covered in your plan, and whether they need to serve you directly, or can supervise the counselling. Let us know before counselling begins. Subsidized fees do not apply for 3rd parties.


Cancellations: You will be charged for missed sessions and late cancellations (less than 48 hours). When cancelling is unavoidable due to illness, for you or a child or dependent adult in your care, call your counselor as soon as you can. Missed sessions cost everyone. Help us to keep our wait times short by keeping appointments.


Confirmation of attendance. We can provide a form letter with your attendance history and basic information. This will be given to you only, and will not include assessment or evaluation. (Sorry, we cannot write letters at Walk-In or for single sessions.)

“No Wrong Door”: Along with several other York Region agencies, we provide “Warm Transfers”. If we are not the right place for you, we will try to help you find the right one. With your consent, we can provide a brief introduction for you to another agency, over the phone.


We are welcoming: More than 95% of participants surveyed in 2016 said staff were welcoming, non-judgemental, and respected their culture and background. 96% said they would recommend our services to others.

We are effective: 83% of counselling clients reported ‘the situation that brought me to counselling has got better’. 83% reported ‘my/our ability to deal with the situation has got better’. 87% reported ‘my feelings about myself have got better’. 76% reported ‘my relationships with others have got better’. (all figures 2016, after10 sessions)


CCSYR is a Family Service Agency accredited by the Canadian Centre for Accreditation.
